Cozy sweaters, apple picking, bonfires, and falling leaves, are some of my favorite things about Fall. It’s a great season to spruce things up in our homes, saying goodbye to summertime's light and bright mood and bringing a warm and cozy spirit to our homes. This season brings exciting trends, nature-based and contemporary elements, and contrasts to highlight your room.
While trends come and go, they make an excellent opportunity to revamp some of our spaces and turn them into a place we love. Let’s dive right in!

#1. All things nature
This fall season starts with an emphasis on nature in all things, from paint colors and furniture to accessories. And it makes total sense, given that Sherwin William’s color of the year was Evergreen Fog, an earthy, neutral mix.
Nature emanates peace and tranquility from the outdoors, so it’s perfect for a season of change.
For this fall, try to incorporate some natural elements into your rooms, like:
- A beautiful wreath creates a welcoming feel in your home this fall season. One of my favorites is this Magnolia to hang on a wall or door.
- Since fall brings lots of get-togethers, a good centerpiece is a must. Try this artificial plant arrangement to get a nature-inspired look to your indoor spaces and create a warm, welcoming look.
- Another decorating accent for your home this fall needs to be this Leaf pot arrangement, which combines the things I always recommend to my clients: green and contrast. You can place this in your foyer, welcome table, or bathroom. Your guests will feel welcomed every time!
- Lastly, this wood décor bowl is a multipurpose beauty. Use it for your keys, or use them with decorating items like pinecones, apples, pears, and even ornaments at Christmas.
The kitchen can be another place where you can add some touches of nature to bring the fall spirit. While a white kitchen is timeless, you can include some pops of color to create contrast. If you’re thinking of remodeling your kitchen (or even your bathroom) before the holiday season,

#2. shades of Blue
Adding blue to a space may be my favorite trend for this year. While I love adding a dash of yellow or orange to my fall décor, I think blue is a fantastic color to promote elegance and positivity. Here are some of the best ways in which you can use blue this fall:
- Rugs: They can make a huge statement to your room and even be a basis or inspiration for remodeling an entire space. Here are some of my favorite ones:
- Paint: Painting your walls or ceiling can make a huge difference in your room. Take a look at my office before and after
- Accessories: the cherry on top of the cake! Add dashes of blue to your décor, such as a throw, vase, or art. These are some of my favorite pieces:
#3. High Contrast
I always like to mention to my clients that contrast is what makes a room complete. Combining textures, colors, or materials can highlight your space and make it more appealing to the eye. Here are some examples of contrast in the following elements:
- Contrast using color: this can be achieved using dominant and soft colors. For example, you can have a room painted blue and add a dash of seasonal color, like orange or yellow.
- Contrast using texture: Adding two different textures will make your room look more appealing to the eye. I combined the leather and fabric in my project below to create a more interesting look. I love how bright it looks and warm at the same time.
- Contrast using different materials: This may be something you’re already doing in your room with wood, plastic, stone, or metallic materials. However, when appropriately combined, they bring new life to a room. The key here is not to overwhelm your space and instead focus on two or three mainly.

#4. Earth tones are back again!
Another fall trend for 2022 is earth tones. These include neutrals, such as black, white, brown, tan, beige, taupe, gray, and cream. For the project below, I used an earth-tone color palette. Notice how I used neutrals and added some contrast using the coffee table, drapes, and pillows. The orange throw, especially, is perfect for those cozy family movie nights.
