The time has come to share a very special project I’ve been working on. Drumroll please…. my home office.
For several weeks, I’ve been teasing on my Instagram and sharing some updates about the makeover I did for my office this year. And since we’re in the remodel mood (click here if you haven’t read my last post about how to plan a kitchen remodel), let’s talk about this process and the impact it has had on my productivity!
Every great idea starts with a plan
Before my home office makeover, I felt so uninspired that I didn't even want to walk into this room, and I would just close the doors. Honestly, I just preferred working on my dining room table. So the idea of sprucing this room was a no-brainer. My goal was to create an organized work sanctuary that would inspire creativity and productivity.
Like every design, I started with a plan, and since I already know my decorating style, I searched for inspiration, created a mood board, and began with a sketch of how I’d like my new office to look.
As I mentioned in this previous post, I started with this rug as my inspiration piece. I love the colors in it, so I used them to match my paint colors, Waterloo and Hinting Blue by Sherwin Williams.

One element can make the biggest difference in a room
Paint is one simple element that can make the biggest difference in a room. When you change the color of a room, you immediately switch the whole mood, feel, and look of that space. I chose blue, given the fact that it reflects tranquility, calm, harmony, and serenity. All of the key emotions I was looking to boost my productivity.
I decided to go bold and painted the ceiling Waterloo to make a statement. Then to create contrast, I picked Hinting Blue for the walls. This is a modern, light, and peaceful color to calm and soothe your soul. Plus, it looks amazing with the natural light pouring into the room!

Built-ins
The built-in shelves are one of my favorite elements in my home office. I chose white for a clean and classic look. The built-ins modernize the look of the room, and make it easier to have everything organized. I always like to have a few accessories on display as well.

Accents
Last but not least, let’s talk about accessories starting with lighting.
Now, I have great natural light in my office,
but every space needs some artificial lighting. Before, this room had a ceiling fan with a light fixture, and it just wasn’t ideal. This new chandelier, which I love, and sconces make the room so much lighter and brighter. And I love the warmth of the brass. They complement the modern look so well, don’t you think?

I chose a white chair and desks to keep a light and airy look . The white desktop provides the perfect backdrop for me to lay out fabric or paint samples for my projects. My white chair is comfortable and just what I was looking for. See my desk here.
The custom window treatment is a faux roman shade and notice my chair pillow matches that. I wanted something fun and playful looking. Again, I repeated the blues from the rug and paint colors.
Now, the rug.
Talk about making a statement. It’s incredible how this small element was the entire inspiration for my makeover! The gray and blue contribute to the calmness and serenity I wanted my office to reflect.
I brought the outdoors in by adding some plants to my space.
The painting on the wall is one of my favorites by Emily Jeffords, a local artist. I love the colors. Also, drawers are key when it comes to organization. This drawer unit organizes all of the small office supplies.

Other items include this textured waste basket, laptop holder, and printer stand to create contrast in my room. It’s always good to mix and match and have a little something extra that will add just that final touch to your space.

After all of this remodeling, it’s hard to believe that these two are the same room! Let me know what you think about this makeover in the comments section below.
