I think reveals are my favorite part of my job. Being able to see the starting point, the progress, and the final product, it’s fantastic. So now, I want to invite you to walk with me through one of my recent projects: a master bedroom retreat with a bold statement. If you’re all about that hotel-look-alike, you’ll enjoy this one! Keep on reading to see this incredible transformation!
My clients are a busy family with two boys, and they were looking for a resting place just for them. Their ultimate vision was a haven for resting, sleeping, and healing. Also, they wanted to keep the painting, which was initially over the bed, and the green drapes.
I suggested using both of these pieces as inspiration for their remodeling project. We used the green from the drapes to create a bold statement for their sanctuary.
The orange toned furniture is definitely a thing of the past, which my clients requested to change. They wanted something more modern and unique. I always tell my clients that the bed is crucial when remodeling a bedroom. If it’s comfortable, you’ll feel well rested and will be able to be more productive during the day. And since we were going for a more modern vibe, I suggested we go for something simple but statement-making.
In addition, they had a collection of toys, bags, and other elements that wouldn’t allow their room to feel as their own.
It was time to declutter and keep it organized.
The lighting in the room was another thing that had to go. This ordinary fixture was not doing the job. We wanted to go after that hotel-like vibe, so modifying it was another thing on my list.
The picture collection in the bedroom’s entrance makes the perfect welcoming statement to the room, but we made a few small changes.
Now that I had everything on paper, it was time to get things going. My initial consultation allowed me to know my client’s vision and goals and provide the best recommendations for this space.
A design consultation is vital to every project’s kick-off. If you’re stuck and need extra help, you can pick my brain and ask questions through a design consultation, and I will provide you with the next steps you need to take.
If you’ve been reading my past blog posts, you know that I start every project with a plan in mind that’s accompanied by a mood board.
You’ll notice that I started with the two elements my client wanted to keep: the drapes and the art piece. These pieces were vital to add the other elements. We were going after a hotel-like, modern, transitional style. This style favors minimal objects, neutral and natural color palettes, and textures to create a statement.
Ready to see how it all fits together?
I started with my client’s requests. Instead of being on top of the bed, the art piece is now above the dresser. On top of the dresser, I included some fun accessories, a white vase, and an abstract piece of décor.
As you can see, I included a large leaning mirror to make a statement and help bounce the color and light in the room. The mirror also creates the illusion of a bigger space in the room.
My client requested a chaise lounge with a side table to rest or heal. The basket holds some health equipment my client uses when relaxing on the chaise. It also makes a cozy reading nook. The colors we were going after are neutral and minimalistic to create that modern vibe.
As I always mention, adding some greenery to your rooms is necessary. Fresh hydrangeas are a favorite of mine.
I added this pillow for some nice contrast, a cozy dark throw, and a standing lamp to illuminate the area at eye level.
My clients wanted a bold accent wall, so I chose a color to coordinate with the drapes to make the perfect statement. The color is called Raging Sea by Sherwin Williams. Green is a perfect color for a bedroom since it reflects peace and calmness.
The white, fluffy duvet is perfect for that boutique hotel look-alike. The bed needed to be simple yet make a statement, and this canopy bed does that. Layering with texture is key, so I included some accessories, such as a fun pillow and bold wall art. I felt it added that WOW touch, which combined with the rest of the elements, contributes to a well-thought-out space.
I selected the white nightstands so they would pop against the accent wall but are still in line with the style of the other furnishings. The sleek black lamps are substantial and have a small gold detail.
Last but not least, the chandelier was the cherry on top and added that extra modern touch to this room.
