One of the essential elements in a remodel project is to have an interior design professional to guide you so you can accomplish your goal and enjoy your new home! In my previous post, I walked you through my design consultation process and what to expect. In this post, I’ll go deep into the specific benefits of having a consultation when you’re planning a remodel. You do not want to miss any of it, so keep reading!

If you’re thinking about remodeling, start here.
A design consultation is the second step in my work process. After having a discovery call and getting to know you better, I’ll go to your home, explore your space, take some basic measurements, and talk about your lifestyle, inspiration, vision, and the goal you want to achieve. Next, we'll get into specifics, such as the budget, timeline, and design style.
It’s a paid consultation, and you get a full report with my recommendations and the steps you need to take to move forward. Then, I will explain this report thoroughly in another meeting and present my work proposal for your remodel project.
Sometimes homeowners question whether or not it’s necessary to include an interior designer in their remodel project, and let me tell you why you need to do it:
- Your interior designer will lead your project. I will coordinate with your architect and contractor to ensure everything is running smoothly. I will help you decide on finishing touches, colors, paint, and more so that you will have a space you’ll love. Of course, there are sometimes delays, and that’s expected, but having an interior designer as your right-hand person will help find creative solutions and keep the project moving forward.
- You’ll save money. Say you see a beautiful rug that you consider an investment, but once it is in your home, it doesn’t look as good as on the website or store. Or it doesn’t match the other elements in your home, and now everything looks uncoordinated. An interior designer will help you save money by making intelligent and accurate decisions based on what you love and what looks best in your space.
- You’ll reduce your stress. Remodel projects carry lots of overwhelm and anxiety, especially if it involves construction and you have small children or pets. You can imagine the chaos. Having an interior designer will help you prepare for these situations; it’s a great way to know what to expect and how to tackle unexpected problems.

Benefits of a Design Consultation for your remodel project.
Now let’s get into specifics about the ways a design consultation can help you with your remodel project:
- Take the proper steps: If you gone through a renovation before or don’t know which direction to go, having a professional meet your space and give you ideas on moving forward is probably the best way. There's a famous quote: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” You and your interior designer will team up to make the best experience possible in completing a successful project.
- Trusting professionals: Trust is fundamental in every work relationship. That’s why we have a discovery call to see if we will be a good fit for each other. What’s important for me is to keep open communication with you so you’ll know what to expect, and I can help you navigate your decisions.
- Knowing what to expect: A remodeling project can sometimes become ill-at-ease since you’ll be living on a construction site for a while. But, starting with a Design Consultation, you know what to expect and what alternatives you have.
- Reduce mistakes: When you start your project with a design consultation, you can reduce the stress and overwhelm. I’ve always been a solution-oriented person. So if I see the problem, we’ll figure out which solutions we can take to make this experience better for you.
- Open and honest communication: As I mentioned, honest communication is best in every project. In my design consultation, I reinforce the importance of having open and direct communication with each other. This way, we can build trust and knowledge about the steps taken, project progress, and any other questions you may have.
