But as with every successful project, you must do your part to achieve the ultimate goal. So, to create a successful design, make sure to follow the following steps:
#1. Have an idea of what you want and need
A clear vision of what you want and need from your space will be your roadmap to success.
Have a piece of paper in front of you and separate it into two columns, in one column, write your needs and in the other one, your wants. For example,
you may want a whole new pantry for your kitchen to upgrade the look,
but you may need to spruce it up with some paint and change the hardware,
just like we did in this project.

Having a designer is essential to back you up in important decisions such as this one. The last thing you want is to make a significant investment to find out it doesn’t work or reflect your style, so save yourself a headache and hire an interior designer for your project.
Other ideas to add to his list are to consider how you use each room, what activities you do there, what mood you want to create, what colors and styles you like, and what furniture and accessories you need.
You can also gather inspirational images from magazines, websites, social media, or other sources. Having this list will come in handy for communicating your preferences and goals to your designer and giving them a starting point for their design concept.

2. Figure out an approximate budget
Now that you have your goal on paper consider how much you are willing and able to spend on your project. Having a budget in mind will help you narrow your options and set realistic expectations. This step can be tricky, so to help you determine a budget, download my FREE Furniture Investment Guide, which will help establish a realistic budget for your project!
3. Gather inspirational images
Now for the fun part! (or at least my favorite one) Provide your designer with an online bank of saved images for inspiration. You can even grant access to your Pinterest Board so they know your likes and preferences. Make sure to include interior room designs, art, pieces of fabric, and your favorite colors in your search so they can get an idea of your design style. 4. Have an open mind
Working with an interior designer can be a fun and rewarding experience if you have an open mind and are willing to explore new ideas and possibilities. Your designer may suggest something you haven’t thought of, or that challenges your comfort zone, but don’t dismiss it immediately. Listen to their reasoning and vision, ask questions, and provide feedback. You may end up loving something you didn’t think you would or discovering a solution that works better than what you had in mind.
5. Do your homework
While your designer will take care of most of the details and tasks involved in your project, there are some things that you need to do on your end to ensure a smooth and successful collaboration—for example, providing timely feedback, making decisions when required, preparing your space for installation day, and following up with any requests. Doing your part will help you avoid delays, misunderstandings, extra costs, and frustration.
As you can see, working with an interior designer can be one of the best decisions you make for your home. By following these tips, you can create a productive relationship with your design pro and enjoy the process of creating your dream home.
