The fall season is right around the corner, so its time to get ready your dining room ready for hosting family and friends. Let’s look at ways you can create a warm and welcoming dining room for entertaining.

How to Create a Warm and Welcoming Dining Room for Entertaining

Your dining room may be a formal space all on its own or one that is more casual and open to the kitchen and living room. First, think about the egress around the table. Do you have enough room to walk around when everyone is seated at the table?

TIP: round tables are easier to walk around and everyone can be a part of the conversation

Do you need to clear some clutter in the dining room? Clutter tends to grow in areas that don’t get used often. Getting rid of extra stuff in the way will help you feel more relaxed when family and friends come over. You want to have some breathing room, meaning you don’t need something in every corner of the room, especially if it's not beautiful or not serving a purpose.

Does your space need a fresh coat of paint? Maybe you’d like the room to feel moody or perhaps it’s time to lighten and brighten! Painting a room will give you the biggest bang for your buck. If you want to make a statement, add wallpaper for pattern and texture.

How’s the rug underneath the table looking? Could you swap it out for something with more color and interest?

TIP: Indoor/outdoor rugs are perfect for dining spaces because they are easy to clean.

TIP: Fresh flowers or greenery are a must for any occasion at home - they bring life and uplift the space

Lastly, add some decor! Do you have art hanging on the walls? Read my simple tips here for displaying your art at home. Try swapping some accessories from another room in your home to make your space feel new again. Bring in a mirror and a set of lamps for the buffet to add light if it feels too dark. If you’re feeling bold, invest in a new chandelier. The accessories are the jewelry of your space.

TIP: use a dimmer switch for lighting to create ambiance
