Do you have a fear of hanging art on your walls? I think many people are afraid, but not because of putting a hole in the wall, but because they think they’ll get it wrong or they’re indecisive. I want to share my simple tips for displaying your art at home.
First of all, it’s easy enough to patch a little hole.
Second, find what you love! It might be a landscape painting of a place you love to visit or an abstract piece with colors that you love. Maybe you just love a piece simply for how it looks or makes you feel. Just go with what you like.
This entry needed a few pieces for color and warmth. Just look at the difference art makes.
I also added a mirror at the end of this hallway to bounce some light around.
TIP 1: I have found the best height to hang a piece of art is 60” on center. That means the center of your art should be 60” from the floor. If you are hanging a gallery then the center of the gallery should be 60” from the floor as well.
If you go to an art gallery, you’ll notice the art hung at about this height as well, which is a human level. It doesn't matter the height of the ceiling. No one wants to look up when looking at a piece of art.
Tip 2: When hanging a gallery photo wall, I recommend 2”-3” of space in between your frames. Also, lay it all out on the floor first.
Tip 3: When hanging a piece of art above a sofa or other piece of furniture, 6”-8” is a good distance between the art and the furniture.
Tip 4: When in doubt, go big! I love for art to fill a space. It makes a statement. If you have a small piece that doesn’t fill the space, then add another one on top. I love the stacked look.
Or go for a row of three! I love to use thin black frames with white mats for a clean and classic look.
BONUS TIP: Use the Waterlogue app to turn your photos into watercolor pics to frame
If your room is feeling a little bland, give it some love with art! It will make a huge difference and you will love the feeling it gives your space.
