As kids grow, so should their rooms. So, when our client asked for a grown-up room makeover for her tween daughter, we were excited to jump on board and come up with the right solutions for her space. In this project reveal you’ll see how we took a challenge, and with our design approach we transformed this space into a dreamy and cozy place!
Dreamy Tween Bedroom Project Reveal
As a mom of four kids, I understand the need for kids & teens to have a personal space that reflects their interests and personalities. When we first met our tween client, she mentioned that she loves dancing, reading, and writing, so our goal was to create a space where she could do her favorite things. and last for many years to come.
As usual, we started our project with a Design Consultation, that allowed us to:
- Evaluate the space, understand our client's needs and wants and come up with a design plan.
- Understand our clients' vision and inspiration and provide a solution for their current challenges.
- Provide an estimated work scope that included timeline, budget, communication, and what to expect when you work with us.
Once we presented the design plan and our client gave us the green light, we proceeded with this fantastic makeover. Make sure to read until the end to get insights into this amazing transformation.
The Challenge: Design a Harmonized Space
At first, our client asked for a swing chair, built-ins, a bench at the end of the bed, and a larger dresser for the bedroom. It may seem like a lot of elements for one room, but our goal was to ensure they harmonized well while creating a balance throughout the space. Our main focus was to allow all elements to fit without appearing overcrowded.
As you can see from these preview pictures, the room had unbalanced elements that promoted clutter, so we aimed for a functional and organizational design that flowed according to our client's vision.
The Solution: Focusing on the Details
We decided to maximize the space without compromising style. Built-ins were the perfect solution; they would help maintain organization within the room. The ideal place to include the unit was between the windows and create a focal point. From looking at the picture below, you can see how everything flows as it was one single piece. The white color of the built-in shelves and the soft flowing drapery panels gave the bedroom that peace and relaxation we were going after.
One key aspect of this design was to map everything in our design plan; that way, we had a blueprint and a preview of the final look to ensure everything flowed smoothly and perfectly balanced.
We filled the built-ins with our tween’s favorite books and decor that would speak to her lifestyle. I love how the space looks organized and increased size to maximize functionality and looks.
Our Design Approach: A Dreamy Look
We added a little sophistication and a more grownup feeling to this bedroom by swapping the bed for a chic upholstered frame that elevates the room's aesthetic. The blush pink bench at the foot of the bed adds a touch of luxury, and the matching dresser and nightstand with woven cane details evoke a subtle beachy vibe.
We added bits of gold throughout the room that will contrast with the walls and add warmth. As for the walls, we opted for
Sherwin Williams' color of the year, Upward – a serene powder blue ideal for relaxing after a long day of school and dancing.
Lastly, we fulfilled our client's request for a swing chair. Our contractor added some extra bracing between the attic joists to hang the swing chair, giving our tween a special place in her dreamy room to unwind and relax!
The final reaction has always been my favorite part! Our tween client was so happy she now has a place for the next phase of her life. Our client said it best: It’s sophisticated, beautiful, and will last for many years to come.
We are so thankful for our client's trust in this remodel project, and I love how everything turned out according to plan. What's your favorite part about this remodel? Comment below!
