7 Steps to Make Your Bed
January 16, 2020

Do you make your bed? Or do you just not care? Perhaps you’d like to make it a habit of making your bed everyday since it’s a new year. I make mine 90% of the time, so most days. Today, I’d like to share with you 7 steps to make your bed in addition to my favorite bedding essentials.

I love to walk into my master bedroom when the bed is made. To me, the room feels pulled together and complete. When my bed isn’t made, the whole room just feels messy to me. Also, it only takes 5 minutes! Aside from the everyday making of the bed, there are a few essentials I like to have on my bed.

BED MAKING ESSENTIALS

First, start with the mattress. Since I have indoor allergies, a zippered waterproof mattress cover is essential, and I have this cover. Now, I don’t worry about dust mites.

2. Since my bed is a platform bed, I don’t have a bed skirt, but I do have a box spring cover. It’s a great alternative to a bed skirt if you like a more modern look. By the way, I love my upholstered headboard.

3. Then, if you need a mattress topper, this one comes highly recommended. It gets amazing reviews, and I know people who have it and love it.

4. I like white sheets or white sheets with a subtle pattern. Mine get laundered every week on Saturday, and I love the feeling of getting into the bed at night with freshly washed sheets!

5. Then I like to layer with a lightweight blanket. Sometimes, especially in the warmer months, I get too warm, but still need an extra layer besides the top sheet. This blanket also adds an additional texture to the bed, and I like it in white.

6. A white duvet cover reminds me of an upscale hotel. It’s a clean look and you can mix and match all the pillows you want. My duvet cover has a grey stripe detail that coordinates with my pillow cases. I also like to fold my duvet cover at the end of my bed.

7. I place my sleeping pillows on my bed first, followed by 2 euro shams and then an accent pillow. There are so many different ways to add pillows to a bed, but I like to keep mine simple.

In addition to the 7 steps to make your bed, add a cozy throw on the end for anytime you want to curl up to read a book!
