Consider this before getting started.
One vital step before changing the look of your bedroom or any room in your home is to consider your lifestyle.
What does a day in your life look like? For your bedroom, ask yourself: are you looking for a serene and relaxing spot, a place to heal and recharge, or the perfect place to get ready when you go out at night?
Another vital part is knowing what looks you prefer regarding colors, elements, and accessories. What design style resonates with you the most? Knowing this in advance will help you make the best and most accurate decisions to save some money and stress.
If you’re ready to start, here are seven ways to upgrade your bedroom look.
Adding an Accent Wall
An accent wall is meant to be a focal point. It’s the first thing you’ll see when you enter your room. They add texture and character to your space, and make big, bold changes.
You can make an accent wall in your bedroom using these elements:
- Paint: To create a statement in your room, use a dark, bold color that will contrast with everything else in the room. You want to choose a bold color that matches the other elements in your room. After all, we are going for a cohesive look.
- Wall Panels: talk about a great way to make an accent! Wall panels are such a good choice to change the look of your bedroom. They’re easy to install, involve low maintenance, and you have plenty of material options, so you can choose those that go better with your design style.
- Wallpaper: another option with so much to choose from. Like art, go with whatever speaks to you.
In the project below, we created a custom accent wall and the golden round décor makes the ultimate statement to the bedroom. Don’t you just love that splash of gold?

Check out this other example. This bedroom is from our
Raging Sea Serenity project. There are ore layers in this accent wall, which adds to the room's overall look. The lines help create that modern hotel-look-alike vibe.

Lighting
Another significant element
to updating your bedroom is lighting. Create a relaxing look in your bedroom by adding different layers of lighting. From chandeliers and lamps to ceiling lighting, if you choose wisely, they will uplift the whole look of your room.
Make sure to choose a warm temperature in your lighting to create a comfy atmosphere. If you’re feeling overwhelmed about these decisions, book a call with me to discuss your design project.
Bedding with accent pillows
If you’re all about that hotel look-alike vibe, changing your bedding is a nice touch that goes a long way. One of my favorite looks is a classical white; it just gives that dreamy look. To avoid looking too simple or boring, add accent pillows to create contrast.
For this project,
we went a step further and added a nice, comfy quilt to create a relaxed look.
Notice how the different textures in the bedding create a warm touch that’s perfect after a long day at work when all you want to do is rest and decompress.

Rugs
Rugs are a great starting point for decorating or renovating your bedroom. It’s nice to add some texture to contrast and balance the other elements in your room. Plus, they make your bedroom look comfortable and inviting. One of the things my clients ask the most is if you should include a rug on a carpeted floor. And the answer is yes. Just like lighting, adding another layer will help create a contrast in color and texture, not to mention will add to the whole comfort vibe of the room. Use it for focal points in your bedroom, like underneath your bed or lounge area, to complement the room's look.
Sitting/lounge area
Another great addition to your bedroom is having a sitting or lounge area. You can use it as a place to read a book, meditate, or simply relax. Plus, it is an excellent opportunity to use extra space you may have in your room.
For this project, my client wanted a space to rest and heal, so we added a nice, comfy throw to make the perfect relaxing spot. Comment below; how
would you use your sitting or lounge area in your bedroom?

Full-length floor mirror
If you’re looking to increase the modern look of your bedroom and make it appealing to the eye, adding a full-length floor mirror is the best way to do it. Mirrors also help
increase the natural lighting, creating the illusion of extra space in your bedroom.
Using mirrors to renovate your bedroom is a small change that produces incredible results.
Drapes
In order to complete the look, drapes are the best way to update your bedroom.
Especially for a good night's sleep, choosing the right drapes will prevent any unwanted glare and help you wake up recharged and recovered. A good tip to consider if you’re thinking about changing your drapes, is to measure your space first. They should hang high and be long enough to touch the floor to provide that WOW look to your room.

As you can see, when it comes to updating a bedroom, making a few smart decisions can go a long way. So if you’re ready to change your bedroom but unsure where to start, book a call with me to guide you with the proper steps.
