Tween Bedroom Makeover Final Reveal – One Room Challenge
June 30, 2020

It’s finally here! The One Room Challenge Tween Bedroom Makeover final reveal day! I am so excited to share the end product with you.

This was my first time participating in the One Room Challenge, and I loved it and would do it again. Nothing like a deadline to hold you accountable for finishing a project! Get ready for lots of pictures!

Let’s take a look at where we started in this room. Slightly embarrassing, I know!

Here’s the design plan and a 3D design board.

I helped my 11 yr old client make a lot of the decisions and discussed the why for doing things the way we did. We also made some tweaks along the way. After all, this is HER room.

TWEEN BEDROOM MAKEOVER FINAL REVEAL

Come on in!

To start, we bought a bigger bed from a local seller and painted it with chalk paint.  New bedding and pillows add lots of texture. See how I painted the bed with chalk paint.

New paint color is Sherwin Williams Tidewater at 50%.

Storage is key, and with a small bedroom, it’s best to think vertically. We used IKEA Billy bookcases and turned them into custom built-ins. Check out the full built-in bookshelf tutorial.

We installed these plug-in sconces since my daughter loves to read in bed. You’ll also notice her love for books. Read more about plug-in wall sconces in this post.

I believe art is a very personal choice, and my client selected these customizable prints from an Etsy shop. She’s a gymnast so these really spoke to her. These gold frames from Target are some of my favorite to use right now.

I wanted to reuse as much as I could in this makeover. On this side of the room we kept the same drapes, but I spray painted the existing window hardware and added the ribbon. It’s the details that make the difference.

The dresser also got a fresh coat of white paint.  Add just a few accessories and it’s done.

A few accessories on the bookshelves are new, including the storage baskets, which act as nightstand drawers. They’re from Homegoods. Others, I reused or spray painted to give a new look.

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the progress of this room. Definitely a labor of love!

Just a couple more shots!
