Think about your living room. You probably have some type of ceiling lighting, whether it’s a flush mount fixture, a ceiling fan with a light, or recessed cans. But what about other light sources? Do you have any sconces, table lamps, or floor lamps?

Good lighting makes a space come alive. If you’re accustomed to only having a ceiling light fixture in your living room, you may not even realize the impact a set of table lamps can have. Take notice of your space—do you have dark corners that could use some brightening? Do you enjoy reading on the sofa, but find it’s difficult once the sun goes down?

Table lamps also provide ambiance in the evening. At dusk, I love turning on my lamps to create a cozy atmosphere.

How to Choose the Perfect Table Lamp For Your Modern Transitional Living Room

Not all lamps are created equally. Here’s what to look for:

            BASE   A high quality table lamp will have a base and a finial.

           WEIGHT   The best lamps are heavy, so they won’t fall over when bumped.

HEIGHT   Don’t skimp on size. Typically, your living room table lamps will be taller than                                your sofa.

STYLE   Look for a base with a simple shape such as a cylinder and clean lines. A drum shade or one that is slightly tapered is also a good choice.

Table lamps are a great way to add a punch of color or texture to your living room. Not only are they decorative, but they’re functional accessories as well.
