2021 Color of the Year Review: Urbane Bronze
September 28, 2020

Have you heard? Sherwin Williams just announced their color of the year. In this post I’ll be doing a 2021 color of the year review: urbane bronze, and then I’ll share a mood board with you. I’ve seen this color used many times over the years. Here are my thoughts.

These days, we are spending most of our time in our homes. Our homes should be a sanctuary, a place to rest from what’s going on in the world. How do you create that in your home? One way is with color, and I’ll show you some examples.

Urbane bronze is on the same color strip as worldly gray, which is one of my top 5 neutral paint colors. It’s a deep, rich color, very earthy. In fact, I love it. It adds richness and drama.

2021 COLOR OF THE YEAR REVIEW: URBANE BRONZE

I like to create drama, not in my life, of course, but in spaces like a dining room or formal living room. Use urbane bronze as an accent wall color or use it with lighter furnishings and you’ve created contrast, which adds drama.

It also works well as a kitchen island accent color or bathroom vanity color.

Want to create a high-end look in your home without committing to an entire room? Paint your interior doors a dark color like urbane bronze. It’s deep enough that it creates contrast, but not so deep that it looks like a black hole.

Urbane Bronze is a very organic color and brings a sense a nature into a room. It has a green undertone. Maybe that’s the attraction, is nature.

This exterior front door is painted urbane bronze and I love the richness here. It’s a beautiful color for the exterior.

See how Megan painted the backs of her white cabinets here and now those beautiful white dishes pop against the dark color.

The key to using a deep color like urbane bronze is to pair it with lighter colors to create contrast. You’ll notice in all of the photos above that most or all of the others elements in the rooms are much lighter. By creating contrast you create interest and your room won’t read as flat.
