2020 Sherwin Williams Color of the Year
January 7, 2020

Do you like the color navy? Every year paint companies introduce a color of the year that will affect home design and trends. The 2020 Sherwin Williams color of the year is Naval, and it is one of my favorite colors!

Navy is classic. It’s timeless. It even works as a neutral color. Pair it with gold hardware or add a touch of yellow, orange, pink or lime green. I would love to paint my kitchen island navy!

What about a navy dining room? Yes, please! I love the drama it brings here. I’ve been thinking of painting my dining room this color for awhile now. Stay tuned, folks! You could also paint a piece of furniture this color. A navy buffet would look fabulous in a neutral dining room.

Don’t want to commit to paint? Here is a round-up of items that you can use to incorporate navy into your home. These items are all from Pottery Barn.

SIMPLE WAYS TO ADD NAVY TO YOUR HOME

  1. Decorative Bowl – the perfect shelf or coffee table accessory
  2. Buffalo Check Pillow Sham – these pillow shams are a classic pattern to mix and match with your bedding
  3. Artwork – this art would be beautiful against white walls in a beach house
  4. Linen Drapes – I love the look of navy drapes against a light gray or beige wall in any room, and these are great quality
  5. Accent Chair – I love to add an accent chair in a different color when using a neutral colored sofa or sectional
  6. Dough Bowl – this would look great sitting on a kitchen counter filled with green apples
  7. Lamp – use a pair of these in the bedroom to add the finishing touch
  8. Indoor/Outdoor Rug – I love these to use outside on a porch or patio but would look great in a kid’s room too

Have lots of beige or gray in your home? Add navy! You can’t go wrong.

Navy works year-round. Pair it with red or green during the fall and holiday season. Navy paired with lime green, yellow or pink is so beautiful for spring. Navy can be complemented by gold or silver accents. It’s your choice!

Navy and white is one of my all time favorite color combos. In fact, I have lots of it in my closet. It’s a classic. If you’d like to see more ways to incorporate navy, check out these design boards I created for a 5 room modern design.
