Our Favorite Paint Colors to Transform Your Home
Has it ever happened to you that you look at a paint-chip sample, and the actual color does not look the same? As I explained in this previous post, that’s because of the mass and undertones that you need to think about before choosing a paint color. In addition, you need to consider the following:
- Check the lighting. Natural and artificial light can impact how a paint color shows up in a room. Before making your final decision, test your paint colors in different lighting to see how they look throughout the day.
- Consider the size of the space: Lighter colors can increase the size of a room, while darker ones can add depth and coziness to larger spaces.
- Test your paint. Choose the color you like, paint a small section on your wall, and look at how it looks throughout the day as the light changes.
- Ask a professional. There’s no better feeling than knowing you’re making the right choice for a room. When you hire an Interior Designer, they can present options that match your design style and will look great in your space.
Now that you're caught up with the basics, let’s dive into my favorite paint colors to transform your room.
Sherwin Williams Snowbound
With its slight gray undertone, this versatile off-white pairs well with other gray-influenced colors. One of my favorite things about this paint color is the elegance and sophistication it adds to your space. We’ve used this to bring life to two kitchen projects:
- In our Revere Pewter and Dreamy Kitchen Project, Snowbound helped create a warm and inviting space to make it feel fresh and modern.
- This paint color in our Snowbound and Smokey Blue Project helped us create a light and bright atmosphere.
In addition, Snowbound is the perfect backdrop for showcasing the islands, bar stools, and cabinetry in both of these projects, allowing them to take center stage while still providing warmth and cohesion.

Sherwin Williams Smokey Blue
This chic blue has a gray undertone, bringing up a soft mood in an entire room. It’s ideal for playing with on an accent wall or trying its effect in a whole room. One of my favorite things about Smoky Blue is that it pairs beautifully with different design styles, adding interest to the room.
We used Smokey Blue for two of our projects.
- Revere Pewter and Dreamy Kitchen: Our goal was to make a statement in this kitchen, so we painted the brand-new island with this color. And because, at An Inspiring Home, we love the details, we selected a fun cheetah fabric for the customized bar stools to pair with the island’s Smokey Blue. It looks fun, modern, and inviting.
- Refined Casual Living: Initially, this space didn’t serve a purpose nor felt inviting; however, it had many opportunities to transform into a cozy place. So, we updated the space with color to provide contrast and transformed it into a sitting lounge where my client could curl up in a chair and read or do puzzles at the coffee table.
Think briefly: Is there a room in your house that you’d like to bring to life or transform into a more inviting place? If so,

Sherwin Williams Upward
It was chosen as
this year's color because it reflects peace and tranquility. This serene denim blue features subtle gray undertones, that will transport you to a tranquil state of mind. Pair with a cool pastel to complete the effect.
We used Upward in our
Dreamy Tween Bedroom Project to transform our young client's space into a more grown-up girl room. We added soft shades of color matched with beautiful neutral tones to add a relaxing vibe. And how cool is that hanging chair? It’s certainly the star of the room.
Upward is ideal for rooms where you want a relaxing or productive room, such as a bathroom or home office.
Sherwin Williams Waterloo
Waterloo is the perfect color to evoke calm after a storm. It’s a deep, rain-soaked blue tempered by tones of warm gray.
It is ideal for creating a statement wall in a bedroom, bathroom, or, in my case, my home office. I decided to go the extra mile and painted my home office ceiling with Waterloo to add a touch of color that enhances the room's overall aesthetic. My favorite thing is that it pairs so well with the gold accents of the sconces and the white in the built-ins. It helps flow my creativity and productivity!

Benjamin Moore’s October Mist
As promised, here’s a sneak peek of our
“More Fun than Fancy Project." As you can see, we chose Benjamin Moore’s October Mist for one of the rooms we’ll be remodeling because it’s neutral and diverse. Its versatility makes it easy to create and use as a statement in different ways.
For this project, we plan to use October Mist for cabinetry, which adds freshness and balance throughout the space. Stay tuned to see how this design journey unfolds
