Transitional Dining Room
August 20, 2019

Do you have a formal dining room in your home? This one gets used a lot, not only for holiday meals but weekly family dinners as well. Transitional style is a little bit Traditional and a little bit Modern. Let’s take a look.

The chair rail, wainscoting and crown molding are all traditional elements. The lighting, dining room table and art are more modern in style. The tufted chairs are a classic style that works with any design style. I really love these chairs from Pier One.

By using modern, classic and traditional elements I was able to create a transitional styled dining room that will last for years. A quality dining table is definitely worth the investment, and these upholstered chairs definitely elevate the look of a room. One suggestion: don’t buy a matching dining set. Select chairs that will complement your table and dining room, and don’t be afraid to mix and match. If you have chairs that match your table, try swapping out the chairs at each end of the table for a pair of upholstered ones. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.

These walls are painted Pewter Cast by Sherwin Williams. This color is a perfect background when decorating for holidays or birthday parties. The stripes alternate between flat and semi gloss paint. Vertical stripes lend to a more formal style as well as accentuate the height of the room. This sideboard provides storage for seasonal decor and extra party ware. I upgraded the hardware to coordinate with the lighting, tray and mirror. A mirror is a must for me in most rooms, especially the dining room. It reflects the light and adds dimension to the space. The buffet lamps bring in extra light and add an extra touch of ambiance when on at night.

The tray makes it easy to move the decor to clean or provide extra space for food items. I love how this tray coordinates with the mirror above.

This wall is a favorite, and I am so pleased with how the art turned out. The pictures are taken from a trip to New York City. Then they were transformed to watercolor-like art using an app called Waterlogue. It’s so cool! The white mats along with the thin black frames really make the photos stand out. It’s an easy and inexpensive way to bring artwork into your home!

Do you notice a theme in this space? Note the striped walls, ribbon stripes on the drapes and on the lampshades and striped vases. This theme along with the combination of traditional elements and modern furnishings create a well curated dining room. Thank you for touring this transitional dining room.
