How to Make a Design Statement
In every room that I design, I want to make a statement. There should be something that stands out and says "wow!" My favorite ways to do this are with lighting, art, pattern and color. Let me share with you how to do that too. Then I have some of my favorite statement-making pieces for you to shop!

WALL COLOR
An accent wall whether it’s a pop of color with paint or wallpaper can do the trick. Also, don’t forget about the 5th wall in the room. The ceiling! I recently recommended to a client that they paint the tray ceiling in their master bedroom an accent color. It’s a bit unexpected and draws the eye up!
FOCAL POINT
Every room needs a focal point. In the living room it might be the fireplace wall or a gallery wall. Your eye should be drawn to the focal point. It’s a place of interest that stands out from the rest. What's your eye drawn to in this modern living room? Is it that floor to ceiling marble fireplace?
PATTERN
Use pattern in your rug, pillows, drapes or furniture to bring visual interest to your living room. I love to use a rug as my starting point. Pillows are a great way to tie into the colors and pattern from the rug.
ART
Get a show-stopping piece of art and you have a great conversation piece when entertaining friends and family. This can be a painting on canvas, a framed watercolor on the wall, or a piece of sculpture on your coffee table. The options are endless! Choose something that you love, has meaning and that speaks to you. The art in the photo below was the jumping off point for the room.
FURNITURE
Make a statement with a piece of furniture. It can be something unique that you find at a retailer or something handed down from a family member, like a vintage piece. Your living room will be more exciting if it has a collected feel and not all matchy-matchy items.
lighting
Lighting is key in any room. It can make or break a space. It’s not enough to just have recessed cans in the ceiling. That’s only one layer and you need multiple layers. Consider a statement chandelier or a couple of table lamps that say, “look at me!” Check out this gorgeous statement chandelier below.
