You’ve had your consultation, shared your design goals and vision, and now you’re probably wondering: what’s next? At An Inspiring Home, we believe the design experience should be just as fun as the final result. That’s why we’ve created a personalized onboarding experience that helps our clients feel confident, informed, and excited about their journey.
In today’s blog post, I take you behind the scenes and show you what happens after your design consultation.
If you have any questions about what it’s like working with an interior designer, make sure you
read this blog post, where we cover everything about working with an interior designer.
What Happens After Your Interior Design Consultation?
In one simple sentence, we take all of your ideas and put them into action.
It’s during this time that we take the opportunity to build a personalized proposal that addresses your specific needs and provides the best solution for your space.
So, to make it simple for our clients, we divide this process into four simple steps:
- Building a customized proposal
- Onboarding process
- Getting started
- Design kick-off meeting
Let’s explore what happens at each step. Before getting started,
check out our complimentary resources, built to help you make your remodeling process smoother!
1. Your Customized Proposal
After our initial consultation, we begin work on a detailed proposal. Inside that document, you'll find everything you need to know before getting started:
- Scope of Work: In this section, we detail the specifics of our services and our design approach
- Design Fee and Estimated Furnishings Investment: The investment is an essential part, and one of the most frequently asked questions when we first start working with our clients. In this section of the proposal, you’ll find an initial estimate and the investment details to ensure transparency and peace of mind that your project is in the right hands.
- Project Timeline: You’ll get a quick look at the time required to bring your design goal to reality.
- What to Expect Moving Forward: In this part, we address all your questions about working with a designer and provide a quick guide to the process, ensuring everything aligns with your vision.
We send this proposal and schedule a quick call to explain the content, which gives us the opportunity to address any questions you may have.
2. Onboarding Process
Once you're ready to move forward, you’ll sign our design agreement and pay the first half of the design fee. From there, it’s time to get to work.
We’ll begin our onboarding process through a system that keeps all of our clients' information organized, as well as the project.
In this step, we gather important details like:
- Your preferred method of contact
- Your availability, such as days and times that work best
- Any
upcoming travel plans or special events that might affect the timeline
Having these details helps us plan more effectively and communicate more clearly, which keeps us on the same page and avoids any mix-ups along the way.
Are you loving what you’re hearing so far, and do you have one or multiple rooms in your home that you'd like to remodel?

3. Getting Started
Behind the scenes, we’re working on getting everything set up to begin your project. Since there are many moving parts in our projects, we must have everything organized.
We use Google Drive to keep the following documents:
- Our clients' photos (before, progress, & after)
- Floor plans and drawings
- Any information that the contractors will need to complete the project
- Client's existing furnishings, if applicable
Having everything in one place makes it easier to have everything on hand and communicate effectively with our clients.
4. Design Kick-Off Meeting
The last step of our onboarding process is our design kick-off meeting. We meet with our clients again to get to know their style a bit better by reviewing inspirational photos. We examine fabrics, wallpaper, tile, and countertop samples, and discuss specific needs when it comes to furnishings.
It is essential that we understand our client's style so that we can steer the design in the right direction.
This meeting is all about understanding your taste, goals, and lifestyle, so we can ensure every decision is personalized and you can enjoy what’s coming.
A Closer Look at Our Design Experience
Since I’m sharing a behind-the-scenes, I decided to share this section with you from my client’s perspective.
You see, this client’s home felt too dark and outdated; the lighting was not our client's preferred style. The spaces needed new paint and updates.
I’m excited to share that, with our design approach, our client’s home is now a cohesive and comfortable environment that invites you to slow down, stay, and relax. Or as my client said in her own words:
“We purchased an older home that needed significant updating. It was quite a process, but what I appreciated most about working with Jen was how well she communicated with us. She gave us options but never pressured us. We were given pictures, diagrams, and pricing with everything we chose. We are so happy with the results! Jen’s knowledge and expertise were invaluable in helping us create the home that we desired. We would definitely work with her again!”
